Together

Coastal Carolina Disaster Resiliency Agency (CCDRA) partners with funders, volunteers, non-profit and faith-based organizations to provide critical repairs and meet disaster-related needs for survivors of Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Matthew. Together, we bring homes back to life and help families on their journey to recovery.

To Serve

CCDRA is dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable members of our community—those who are impoverished, elderly, disabled, marginalized, uninsured, underinsured, or young families just starting out.

Because these survivors often face the greatest barriers to recovery, all of CCDRA’s services are provided at no cost to them. Our mission is to ensure that financial hardship is never a reason someone is left behind in disaster recovery.

To Build

But our mission doesn’t stop at disaster response. CCDRA also works year-round to build resiliency, strengthen communities, and prepare for the next storm—because recovery is only complete when families are not just restored, but better prepared for the future.

Built for Resilience. Rooted in Community.

CCDRA has a proven record of results—years of long-term commitment, trusted partnerships, and life-changing recovery work across Craven and Jones Counties. Our history reflects more than just expertise; it reflects a promise: we will walk alongside survivors until the job is finished.

Our staff is small but mighty—neighbors serving neighbors. Each team member is a Craven County resident, many of whom are hurricane survivors themselves. We know the pain of loss, and we know the power of recovery. That’s why we’re committed to staying in the fight until the very last home is repaired and every available resource is put to work.

When you partner with CCDRA, you join an organization that never gives up. We don’t walk away when attention shifts elsewhere—we remain, serving faithfully, until recovery is complete.

CCDRA: Locally born. Locally grown. Locally represented.

Long Term Recovery Takes Time

Recovery Takes Time—and Commitment
Recovery from a disaster doesn’t happen overnight. In fact, it is estimated that it will take at least five more years to fully address the damage caused by Hurricane Florence (2018) and Hurricane Matthew (2016)—and the work is still far from finished. Families are still living with the consequences of these storms every day. For much the of the community and many of the supporters, Hurricane Florence was 7 years ago. For these survivors who are still living in these damages with no way out and no financial ability to recover on their own, Hurricane Florence feels like just yesterday.

Why does it take so long?
Every new disaster across the country or around the world captures the attention of funders, volunteers, and media. As resources shift to the latest crisis, communities like ours are left to pick up the pieces more slowly. Even local interest and support can fade as time passes, yet hundreds of families remain in unsafe, unstable housing situations.

Recovery isn’t just about repairing homes—it’s about restoring lives. Each case is unique, requiring assessments, funding, skilled volunteers, construction planning, and ongoing support. With rising costs of construction, materials, and insurance, the road to recovery stretches even longer.

That’s why long-term recovery organizations like CCDRA are so vital. We stay when others have moved on. We remain focused on the survivors who are still waiting for help, making sure no one is forgotten and that families have the opportunity to return to safe, stable homes—no matter how long it takes.

Our Goals

Our Goals: Turning Recovery Into Resilience
At CCDRA, our goals are clear and unwavering:

  • Help families rebuild safe, secure homes so they can move forward with dignity and stability.

  • Strengthen communities by restoring not just buildings, but the connections and resources that make them thrive.

  • Empower survivors—ensuring they are not seen as victims of disaster, but as resilient neighbors who have the tools and support to recover.

  • Build long-term resiliency so that when the next storm comes, our communities are stronger, safer, and better prepared.

We know that true recovery takes time, funding, and strong partnerships. But with each repaired home, each supported family, and each prepared household, we are moving closer to our vision: communities that are whole, resilient, and ready for the future.

Our Impact

Making a difference in our community

Over 250 Homes Repaired
Since launching our construction program in 2021, CCDRA has completed repairs on more than 250 homes, including several that were severely damaged, giving families a safe place to live once again. Our partnerships with organizations like World Renew and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, who connect us with out of town volunteers, have been essential in making this happen.

Volunteer Power, Year After Year
Thanks to New Hope Volunteer Village, our dedicated housing facility, we welcome over 500 out-of-town volunteers annually. This space—designed solely for hosting service teams—can house up to 60 people year-round. CCDRA's small (but mighty) staff trains and oversees these volunteers to ensure quality work and safe experiences with a reduced cost per project.

17,000 Volunteer Hours Every Year
These committed volunteers contribute an average of 17,000 hours annually in home repairs and community support—making recovery possible in ways that would not be achievable without them. Volunteer repairs help our organization make a bigger impact with funds, reducing the cost of every home repair by more than 50%.

Stronger Together
By blending local commitment with national volunteer support, CCDRA ensures that families across Craven and Jones Counties not only recover from past disasters but are empowered with resilience for the future. Our partnership with Baptist on Mission, the only other agency still doing Disaster Recovery in our communities, has been essential. Navigating bigger worksites together, our volunteers sharing responsibilities, and our missions navigating the path forward every day.
